This albergue advertising mileage to Santiago de Compostela was the first time I saw how far we must travel.
We stopped at a bar across from this church (closed). The Cock atop the steeple is a national symbol attesting the fact that a cock saved the life of a pilgrim falsely accused.
At the bar, we saw this lady (Gay) but did not recognize her as a pilgrim because her pack was so small. However, we ran into her on the trail and discovered she was traveling alone from Coventry, England. We were staying in the same hotel at Agueda, so we invited her to join us for dinner.
Gay took our picture too.
This beautiful Quinta was on the way to Agueda. The door and gates had Manueline elements.
Finally we cross the river and stroll Agueda’s pedestrian street. Since 2014, the city has been working on a reputation for an artistic city, particularly with its umbrella project.
Painted stairways.
A building mural.
We were pleased to find not only Gay at our hotel, but also friends Karen and Elizabeth. We all had a wonderful dinner together.

Dan Hendry: What I have always liked about Spain and Portugal is the art. You can see big and small examples in all of your pictures. So much of it is fun art! 22/09/30
Reply: I agree. Richard commented that it was love at first sight in Agueda—that’s mostly because of the art. 2022/09/30
