Barcelos to Belugaes

A walking day from Barcelos to Belugaes. The accommodation was outstanding: Casa Do Rio is a renovated manor house with extensive grounds and comfortable shared outdoor spaces. There were five of us staying there, all pilgrims, and we shared a lovely restaurant dinner together.

11.35 miles 8:28 am to 5:21 pm. 914 feet elevation gain. 12.8 miles for the day.

luggage transport
Our luggage transport. It has been individual taxis up to now, but finally there are enough pilgrims with transport that the larger van is necessary.

The gardens in Barcelos—more color.
cartoon statues in Barcelos
We saw these various cartoon statues all over Barcelos. This one looks like she has an attitude.
the complete bar mural for Barcelos to Santiago
As we get further north, we see more publicity for the Camino as well as more pilgrims. Our morning stop at a bar had this wall mural of the journey. The bartender took my picture.

I forgot to take down my mask. We try to wear masks in indoor crowded settings (like a bar) but find that very few people are masked.
sign about archealogical dig discovering graves
A local church was renovating their parking lot when we noticed this sign that there was an archeological dig of a cemetery from the 6th to 11th centuries.

Graves—we wonder how they are going to preserve and display this site.

Comments:

Wendy Hendry: Glad it is prettier scenery and that you are making so many friends along your journey! Wendy  2022/10/10

Reply: It’s always wonderful to share with other pilgrims. Each place has been beautiful and interesting. I’ll admit it’s been better now that it’s not so hot. 2022/10/10

Dan Hendry:  Looks like a bit more fun and interesting scenery. Nice that the trip gets better the further you go! Good decision to go from south to north. 22/10/08

Reply: There is something interesting everywhere for me. Lisbon to Santiago doesn’t give us much choice in direction. There are still many Fatima pilgrims heading south, though. 2022/10/10

Wanda Penner Can you smell the barn yet? So now there are more pilgrims. 22/10/08

Reply: We can smell the cows but the best part is the earthy smell when the farmers are turning over their fields. Also, sometimes we catch a whiff from a chimney or outdoor patio—wonderful smells! 2022/10/10
