mileage marker from Pontevedra to Santiago
Hard to read, but the countdown starts the day at 64.79 kilometers to Santiago.
stone cross with extra figures
Another stone cross with extra figures. This one includes St. James the pilgrim with a shell on his hat and two on his coat.
roadside church in Alba features San Cayetano
This roadside church in Alba features San Cayetano, who seems always to have his hands up. I have no idea of his story.
San Roque
San Roque was also represented in the church of San Cayetano. He sometimes resembles St. James with his shell garb and gourd, but has a dog with him and a thigh wound. He is the patron Saint of Caldas de Reis as well as dogs and pilgrims. He is associated with miracle cures during the medieval plague, having recovered from the disease when a dog licked his wounds and brought him bread.
Richard at the nature park at Barosa waterfall
There was a very short detour into a nature park at Barosa to see waterfalls.

Our hotel was off the Camino trail and on the outskirts of town. It was beginning to rain so we headed for the shelter of the hotel, hoping to see a couple of sites before leaving town on Sunday.

Comments:

Ann Prazza Some lovely photos once again. This part of Spain is so green and lush! I love the pumpkins growing in corn. 2022/10/16

Reply It is lush and green in Galicia because it rains a lot. We are walking a third day in rain today (going into Santiago) with a forecast of rain every day as far as we can see. It would be nice to see some sun, but at least the temperatures have been mild. The boot dryers are working overtime. .2022/10/16

Dan Hendry: Agree with Ann that the trip seems to getting prettier and prettier as you get closer to Santiago. Especially have enjoyed the videos from the past several days. 2022/10/19
