A Coruna Rest Day

We expected rain but it was a mostly cloudy day with a few quick showers, making it easier to see things.

10.8 miles walking for the day.

On Sunday morning, the sidewalk of the promenade was busy with walkers, skaters, bicyclists, and runners. Families were enjoying time with a few folks on the beach. There were a few surfers in wet suits.
We were heading toward the Tower of Hercules, a Roman lighthouse from the 1st and 2nd centuries. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the oldest lighthouse in continuous use. It is 180 feet tall but the wind was so fierce that the tower was closed for climbing to the top. It was possible to visit the tower platform but we found it difficult to even stand in the wind.
This statue of a Roman soldier stands guard at the bottom of the hill to the tower.
The breakers below attest to the need for a lighthouse.
Evidently there can be a vending machine for nearly everything. The store was closed, but out front was a vending machine for everything you might need for fishing.
A nice harbor sidewalk was lined by street lights. To Richard’s left is the port control building.
We missed opening times for the 16th century fortress, St. Anton’s Castle, but could view it from the parking lot. It now houses an archeology museum.
Nearly all stores were closed, but street performers still entertained. This guy looked comfortable sitting in his imaginary chair (impossible!) until someone gave him a coin. Then he arose for a fist bump before getting back in position.
