The train map shows train car numbers and station letters. With our reservation for a car and seat numbers, we know where to wait.
Every train trip requires the obligatory selfie.
Rain in Paris and with three bags, we taxi between Saint-Lazare and Paris Nord. It’s Saturday, raining, and there’s road construction, so we still have a trek from where the taxi can let us off.
We have time for lunch and prioritized our food choices by where we could get a seat. Mexican food it is!
Thank goodness our Eurail passes are first class and we have seat reservations. The luggage bins were overflowing but we were able to get our bags stuffed in and get to our seats.
The Rotterdam train station was opened in 2014 after uniting four train stations into one central station. It is modern with many shops and services available.
Our Hilton hotel was a splurge and close enough to walk from the station.
By now the rain has returned so dinner was appetizers at the Hilton. Tomorrow will be a big day and more travel—rest is required tonight.

Ooooo the appetizers look delicious. The architecture of central station is so futuristic looking.
The appetizers were delicious and it was nice to eat lighter. We never left the hotel until the next morning—we needed rest to prepare for the excitement of the next two days.
Rotterdam was heavily bombed in WWII so is rebuilt. The architecture of the city is new, and yes, futuristic. They seem to value greenery, even on buildings.
Yes, you mention rest. I need rest just following your travel for the day. I hope you did get the rest. William the Conquerer went all out with his building of structures. The excavation of the destroyed building, well, did those moats really work?
We did rest in Rotterdam, knowing that the next two days were going to be a whirlwind. It’s a shame not to see anything in the city except the hotel, but we also recognize our need to protect our health. It would be a wonderful city to visit.
Who knows about the moat? It did seem pretty deep, so you wonder if they might get a few moments to hold off their foes? Also, these walls were already inside the castle walls. A pretty good fortress!
