After a restful night on the ferry, we were awakened at 5:30 am to get ready to land at Hull. We had one change at Leeds on the way to Huddersfield, where Simon picked us up and we had lunch and a walk in a local park. Emma, Hayley, and their new dog, Fudge, joined us after dinner to catch up.

P&O’s Hull, England port terminal was as efficient as it was in Rotterdam. We got right onto the bus for the station.
The Hull train station celebrated its 175th birthday in 2023.
In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, the station helped transport 2.2 million migrants making the journey from Europe to America in search of a better life.
During the First World War, the station was a major spot to move troops. On May 5, 1916, the station glass roof was blown out by a Zeppelin raid in which 19 people died.
During the 1941 Blitz, the station was bombed several times on May 7 with the station roof again being hit repeatedly. There were name boards in the lobby recognizing those who left between 1914-1918 and did not return.
We passed fields of red poppies, one of my earliest as a child.
We had to change trains at Leeds, where posters decorated the platform walls.

After a lunch out, we hiked around the lake at New Miller Dam Park.

Goodbye Emma, Hayley, and Fudge until Thursday. We stay the night at Simon’s home.
