Monteroni d'Arbia to Buonconvento

Buonconvento has an ancient wall, some say the most well-preserved Medieval city.

The Gate facing Siena. The gate facing Rome is no longer standing although we saw a picture on the side of the bank where it previously spanned.

The gate doors are original, but were refurbished in the 1990’s.

The church of St. Peter and St. Paul May date as far back as 1103. Henry VII, Holy Roman Emperor, died here in 1313. The church was completely rebuilt in 1705. We were not able to see the interior as it appeared that there was a funeral in the afternoon and then the church was locked.

It is always a milestone when we see that there is only 200 kilometers left to walk. We’re oh-so-close here.

There was a little time before dinner restaurants opened, so we tried a wine bar. The proprietor educated us on the very fine Montalcino wines in the region.

Apologies to Eva for the eyes-closed picture. We sat at the next table from Eva at dinner, and discovered that she was American when she ordered dessert. She is walking solo, and began August 5 from Canterbury! She will move faster than we will, and will beat us to Rome. Amazing lady!

Julia Holman: The town is so well preserved!! Looks like you stepped back in time. 😯 2023/10/21 at 8:52 pm

Reply: As we move to each new town it seems that there is more ancient architecture and more history to enjoy. Some is well-preserved, and some is not, but the imagination can run wild. Every day it feels like a new adventure! 2023/10/24 at 9:32 pm

Dan Hendry: Must mean a lot to meet all these people who on your same journey. Quite a “club” you belong to! 2023/10/22 at 11:00 pm

Reply: It is always interesting to meet other folks walking from all parts of the world. Our visits are brief, but the memories are not. 2023/10/23 at 6:20 am

Dan Hendry: Richard, love your “Relive!” Shares the reality of what you are experiencing each day and gives me an “emotional” connection to what you also experience each day as I look at the photos. Well done! 2023/10/22 at 11:11 pm

Reply: We both also love the Relive videos. Thanks Steve and David for discovering the app. There are limits on the text, but Richard still shows his humor. 2023/10/23 at 6:22 am

Wanda Penner: I like the relive feature you have to go along with your pictures. I get more of an aspect of your day. You are walking, of course, no tour bus waiting at the corner. 2023/10/23 at 2:45 am

Reply: Yes, we are walking. Each day brings new adventure, and not too much rain so far. It’s wonderful to see how many similarities we have in the world. 2023/10/23 at 6:24 am
