Travel day Grindelwald to Innsbruck

Another early morning as we had to take four trains to get to our next location in Innsbruck, Austria.

Richard did not complete a Relive video for the day.

First light and our last look at the mountains from our Grindelwald home.
Leaving Chalet Abendrot, our home in Grindelwald.
Lake Thun from the train. Our train between Interlaken and Zurich traveled through Bern, allowing us to skip the section between Lucerne and Interlaken where the tracks were damaged in recent rains.
Arriving in Zurich on our SBB train.
Arrived in Innsbruck. This is the outside of our apartment. We have a studio on the first floor (second floor in US) in the middle of this picture.
Dinner out in Innsbruck at a traditional Biergarten downtown. First, beer . . .
. . . Then entree (beef goulash for Richard and fish coated with bread and seeds for Jan) and then . . .
. . . Apple strudel with custard to split.

Bus service is excellent in Innsbruck and we are only a couple of blocks from a stop. Thanks to our hotelier and the Innsbruck Card, we travel free. We rode the bus to the restaurant recommended by Mo, our apartment host.

A walk along the Inn river at sunset.
Festival poster next to the bus stop when we were heading back to the apartment. More to check out tomorrow.

  1. You ate custard all the way to Split. Oh my, such weight gain
(we liked Split, Croatia, too…but refrained from consuming so much custard)

    1. It’s true that we’re gaining weight. Like Spain, we get potatoes with everything. The apple strudel you saw was our only dessert, except for one afternoon ice cream when it was sooooo hot! Sunday we will begin our 14 days of hiking so I hope to get back in shape. We haven’t been to Spit yet, but it’s on the list thanks to the Magoverns!

  2. Beautiful sunrise and sunset pictures. Food also looks delicious! Did you really each pack all your belonging in just one medium size suitcase?

    1. I wish we could be in just one medium suitcase, but it doesn’t work for us. We have one large and one medium suitcase, and carry a fold-up bag for incidentals on transportation. Now the hike will begin, and we are limited by number and weight—one suitcase each weighing 20 kilos (44 pounds). Our hiking packs are out of the suitcase now, but anything that doesn’t fit in the suitcase right must be on our back. Not even a magnet purchased so far!
