Travel Innsbruck to Bernried

Time to quit playing tourist and head to Germany to begin our organized hikes across the Alps. First stop: Bernried, Germany from which we will begin walking tomorrow.

Richard’s Relive video is here: https://www.relive.cc/view/vKv2ggRPooO

The OBB train (Austrian Railway) was new, clean, and modern. We had seat reservations which was a good thing for Saturday morning was crowded.
My seat not only had a tray table, but also a drop down mini tray with USB charging.
Taken from the train, we could see all kinds of outside activities along Starnberg Lake on Saturday afternoon.
Our hotel was beautiful except there was no air conditioning and no fan. With 90 degree temperatures and west sun on our room, it was baking.
We headed out to see the town and started along the lakeshore. Again, many families out enjoying the sunshine.
How surprising to see a familiar Camino sign! It turns out that there is a route from Munich to Santiago de Compostela, called Jakobus Radpilgerweg through Germany.

  1. Will be sending lots of well wishes your way for a safe and successful hiking journey. Think you both are amazing approaching these adventures with such enthusiasm and energy. And don’t even be thinking of a Munich to Santiago de Campostela future endeavor!

    1. Hmmm. Munich to Santiago might be an interesting venture! In the meantime, we’ll gladly take your good wishes for safe travels! It’s been busy times so we’re behind in blogging but working hard to catch up!

  2. Your hotel is indeed beautiful. I can also see how the heat can build up. Your relive train ride reminded me of a video game. Would you make it to the end before you ran out of bonus points. Obviously you did. It was certainly quite aways. What does it sound like in the Alps? I know there are cow bells. But what else do you hear? I think we will find out as you begin the next phase of your trip. May the foot gods be with you.

    1. We’re trying to include a few more sounds now and love it that you’ve given us more awareness. I hope you’ll see the videos in the next few days as we get caught up with blogging. I’m beginning to need some foot gods now as we have had some treacherous downhills that tax the ankles and cause friction in my toes. No real blisters but very sore little toes! Bandaids are a blessing.

  3. Oh so fun! Im finally back on line after poor to no internet on the cruise. In Vancouver now, flying home tomorrow. Got Covid on the ship but better now. Take beautiful photos of the Alps and be safe. I’m thinking good thoughts for you.
    Love, Ann

  4. Love following you on this journey! Sorry about the hot hotel room! Love to see the churches you are visiting. So cool the way the map with the J and R show exacTLly where you are travelling. Good luck hiking through the Alps! Also missed you at the movie today where we saw DiDi which got mixed reviews.
I loved it, but others did not!
    Take care! Wendy

    1. We’re still seeing the big mountains from afar but are getting more excited. Cross your fingers for the weather gods. More to come. PS: we haven’t followed movies or much news or politics—a nice healthy respite. I recommend it!

  5. The interior murals of the parish church are gorgeous! Hopefully the weather will cool down for you guys soon!

    1. The churches are certainly beautiful. The weather is getting better, but we’re struggling to keep enough clean cool clothes. No place to buy supplies in these little villages, but we’re making do.
