Family and Training

We’re training and preparing for this wonderful vacation. The hardship is leaving these sweethearts!

Caleb’s Birthday Celebration Thursday, July 17

Celebrate Caleb’s Birthday at San Francisco’s Conservatory of Flowers and Japanese Tea Garden. At home, we celebrated with Red  Velvet Cake with Crème Cheese Frosting.

Amelia’s Birthday Day 1 Friday, July 18

Celebrating at Filoli Gardens where the troll exhibition intrigued the kids.

Amelia’s Birthday Day 2 Saturday, July 19

We headed to the San Jose Children’s Discovery Museum as part of the birthday celebration. Later we had a homemade pasta dinner, ice cream cake, and presents.

Road Trip Monday, July 21

A visit to Bodie, California, a former mining boomtown at almost 10,000 ft elevation in the Sierras. When mining waned in the late 19th century, people began leaving things just as they were. Today the ghost town is protected as a California State Park, allowing a glimpse into the past.

Next was a visit to Mono Lake, including a walk-around at the South Shore to see the lufas.

Road Trip Tuesday July 22

Tuesday we hiked the Methuselah Trail in the Schulman Grove in the White Mountains east of Bishop, California. The bristlecone pines are among the oldest trees in the world.

Our last stop on Tuesday was the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, California.  In the shadow of Mount Whitney in the Sierras, it is a rocky site used for Hollywood movies. We only had time for the arches loop, highlighting the Mobius and Heart arches.

Wednesday morning Ann headed home to Utah in her trailer rig, and we headed home.

  1. What beautiful pictures of all the family. You certainly saw some stunning sights right here in California. Bon voyage. Well, I suspect you are well on your way. I will catch up eventually, or not.

    1. I’m glad you’re following us. I always hope the kids will remember these times with their grandparents, but they are certainly precious memories for us. Ann has shown us so much of Utah and it was great to be able to show her some favorite California spots new to her.
