Travel Dublin to Cork

We landed just before 11 am in Dublin. After clearing customs and collecting our luggage, we were ready to transfer to the train station for our 2 pm train to Cork.

A taxi  was in order since we were so tired. Our driver kept up a running conversation, so we tried to be interested.

About 4.5 miles walking; overcast; 70 degrees with 66% humidity.

This overhead sign greets us as we leave the airport heading out to the city.

The taxi driver knew by now that we were early for our train and that Richard was ready for a Guinness, so he dropped us outside the station bar.

Off to Cork.

No rain but overcast.

Our hotel is very close to the train station—an easy and fast walk.

Our third floor hallway seems to go on forever, bringing  back memories from the movie “The Shining”.

There is a retro touch in the room—a turntable with vinyl records. How did they guess that Rod Stewart’s “Maggie May” was one of our favorites from dating days?

We were looking forward to exploring a bit before dinner and off to bed. Here are some of the sights of Cork.

A positive alleyway mural.

This grand old hotel is where we decided to eat dinner. (It is Richard’s birthday, after all.) The Metropol Hotel must have stunning rooms!

Dinner was wonderful! Richard had the fish of the day, Hake, and I had a timbale of vegetables with aubergine. We went back to our hotel for a dessert toast of Bailey’s Irish Crème, then off to bed.

    1. We both came up with the same reference to “The Shining” in our hallway. It was dark and so lon, with a mirrored ceiling to extend the illusion. It didn’t help that a person came knocking on our door at 1:33 am! We alerted the front desk the next morning and from then on, they activated the floor security so it took a room card to get access to go in or out of our floor.
