Senigallia and Jesi

Richard and I had the morning to explore Senigallia’s seashore. After a wonderful lunch on the porch at home, we headed off for wine tasting and exploring in the Jesi region.

The old bridge across Senigallia’s river was a victim of this Spring’s floods. There is a temporary metal foot and bicycle bridge and the wreckage is being removed.
The Rotonda a Mare is an event center on the beach.
One of the old gates in Senigallia.
The Jesi wine region. We visited the Sartarelli Winery, marked on the map. Francesca used to live at Rosora.
Sartarelli grape vineyards. They make a white wine, Verdicchio, famous in the region.
The winery is a family business since 1972. Here is our guide.
Richard was particularly impressed with the controls panel to monitor temperatures in the wine receptacles.
The buildings are built into the side of the hill to minimize temperature extremes. This not only protects the wine-making process but also keeps energy costs down.
The outside of the tasting building is covered by attractive cork panels. They are attached leaving air space as insulation.
The dessert wine, Passito, is not only great, but also is used in chocolates.
The Chiesa of San Nicolo is a Knights Templar church inside the town of Jesi, built from the 12th to 14th century.
Three insignias prove its ties to the Templar.
The ancient painting, only partially restored, dates the time by the sandals of the figures.
The Palazzo della Signoria now houses the Planettiana Library. Unfortunately, we did not visit it. The palace was constructed between 1486 and 1498.
The Palazzo Rocci from 1547 is known for the diamond-shaped bricks forming the facade of the palace.
Piazza Federico II. Federico II, King of Sicily and Holy Roman Emperor 1220-1250, was born in Jesi in 1194.
The Arco Clementino di Jesi. back to Senigallia for the night.
