After a restless night, I felt aches and chills and was not surprised by my test results. Richard next took a test and got similar results. We stayed in our cabin until we could go to the medical center in the evening. They confirmed the test results, gave Richard some antibiotics to treat any nasal infection and gave me a DayQuil equivalent. We are quarantined for five days, not counting our test day.
Those of us in quarantine are entitled to room service without charge. While it sounds nice, the choices are limited and we get cardboard boxes with plastic silverware and a red biohazard bag in which to place our trash.
We also get movies free on our tv. I don’t know how much they charge regularly, but I appreciate the bargain. We’ve watched Indiana Jones and Golda, and one that was so bad we had to turn it off.
The best benefit is that friends Jean and Jim are sneaking wine and ice cream and cookies to us. We won’t mention to anyone that we’re not putting the dishes in the biohazard bag.
Kathy Nichols: Oh man! So sorry to hear this – especially just after I posted a comment on how healthy you both look! I hope you feel better fast!! 2023/11/26 at 1:17 am
Reply: We’re better in pretty short order—lots of sleep because there was not much to do. Richard still has allergies and we’re being careful still. 2023/11/26 at 3:53 pm
Dan Hendry: Not fun! At least you timed it well. Being restricted to your cabin while crossing the Atlantic Ocean didn’t result in any lost picture opportunities. Looking at your dates you will be out of quarantine just before disembarkation. Hope you get to see New York City from the deck as that is always a beautiful skyline to view. Stay well and we hope to see you in a couple of days! 2023/11/26 at 2:58 pm
Reply: We had to keep the record that no one we know who has gone to Europe has come home without COVID. Luckily the symptoms were mild, probably because we’re so vaccinated as the doctor agreed. We followed protocol and saw the ship doctor. We had our quarantine and now are still wearing masks and being careful. Hopefully we’ll be tip-top about the time we get home. We’re both ready to get home! 2023/11/26 at 3:58 pm
Dan Hendry: Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you upon your return. So glad your covid infections were timed so well and caused so little trip interruption. 2023/11/26 at 8:01 pm
Karen Magovern: So sorry to hear about covid! Are you seeing my posts? Oh well, you’ll be home soon… 2023/11/27 at 1:28 am
Reply: We must not be seeing your posts but I don’t know why. If I haven’t replied, I haven’t seen it. Our COVID symptoms are minimal and we’re alliwed out after 6 days with mask-wearing. I’m okay with the protocol—it’s important not to spread this. Happily, our friends on the cruise have not succumbed, despite spending time with us before we showed symptoms.
We’re looking forward to getting home and playing cards! Schedule? 2023/11/27 at 3:54 am
Kathy Nichols: Your thanksgiving dinners looked pretty disgusting – but so was Karen’s. Boston Market closed unexpectedly so they ordered dinners from Safeway. The dressing was unedible and looked like cauliflower. But all in all I agree with Dan – at least your Covid infections did not interrupt your walks nor your sightseeing. Can’t wait to see you! 2023/11/27 at 12:39 am
Reply: I wasn’t particularly happy with thanksgiving dinner but at least it wasn’t quite the same as every other day. We’ve been eating a lot (what else is there to do in our room?) so we’ll be slowing down now.
Karen’s meal sounds sad—especially since I know she would have others with her. At least it was just Richard and me having our take-out dinners! 2023/11/27 at 3:48 am
Kathy Nichols: Karen and I were talking about our next card games(s) with you. Karen thought maybe with you guys having to “catch up” and also Christmas coming, you might not be available until January! I hope not. I am available every Saturday in December but I don’t know yet about Karen. Hopefully my new bathroom will be done in time for guests! It’s been quite an interesting road we’ve traveled, the Contractor and me…. 2023/11/27 at 9:51 pm
