Assisi and travel to Rome

One more partial day in Assisi with Francesca.

4.43 miles, sunny, 54 degrees, 82% humidity.

Richard’s Relive video for the day is here: https://www.relive.com/view/vAOZmP7yyov

One more time to try to see the San Francisco upper Basilica with Francesca. Success!

Yesterday (Sunday) we could enter through the upper door, but today we must enter below and walk upstairs inside the Basilica.

This is for Kathy who loves the flower boxes. I love them too!

Time to move our luggage to Francesca’s car for our afternoon train at the station down the hill. It will be wonderful to be able to see a few sights outside Assisi before we leave.

We decided to try to see the castle at the top of the hill, where it would be much easier to drive. Oops! The route is controlled so it’s not possible to drive.

Plan B: visit the San Damian Church down the hill a bit.

We struck out here as well. It closed between noon and 2 and we arrived just after noon.

This is where St. Francis composed his prayer, the Canticle of the Creatures. Francesca, who has taught high school, explained that she taught the prayer as one of the first examples of Italian literature. She can still repeat the prayer from memory.

Plan C: go to lunch.

Francesca quickly found a wonderful spot to relax before it was time for all of us to part company.

Francesca dropped us off at the station and we say “until we meet again” (no goodbyes).

Off to Roma!

  1. Glad you were able to spend all this time in Assisi. We were only there for a day. Fun to see what we missed. On to Rome which will be exhausting because we know you will want to see everything!
In present time reality, hope you enjoy the cruise you are now on. Dan and Wendy
