San Miniato to Gambassi Terme

We knew San Miniato had many sites to see and we had arrived late after the hospital visit, so we decided to send our luggage on with the transport company but take the morning for sight-seeing and then taxi to our next destination, Gambassi Terme.

The Tower of Frederico is an imposing high point in San Miniato. It was closed when we visited so no stair climbing, but impressive nonetheless. It was built in the 13th century, destroyed in WWII, and rebuilt in the original design.
Small windy streets in San Miniato.
The Duomo.
The Duomo interior.
The church of San Dominic’s.
A very strange vision of undersea demons awaiting those on the surface.

Truffles are celebrated in food as well as festivals. White truffles are pricier than black ones.
Our residence in Gambassi Terme was a charming B&B. However, the office was not open until 3 so we had a filling lunch of pizza.

Unknown: That was a very striking painting of the underwater demons in the church. And I’m hungry for pizza now. 2023/10/15 at 2:41 pm

Reply: Sorry I don’t know who might have commented. It’s a requirement to add your own information or I only see the message from Richard Holman. Sorry—I haven’t figured out how to make it clearer. 2023/10/15 at 3:00 pm

Dan Hendry: Love the churches of Italy! We visited probably 20 on our recent trip. Many unique, photogenic and inspiring. Healing OK? Enjoy your pizza. Somehow much of the food we had in Italy was very flavorless and starchy pasta so our favorite dinners were usually pizzas! Keep the wonderful pictures coming. How is the lodging compared to your Spain treks? 2023/10/16 at 12:59 am

Reply: We still try always to enter any church with an open door. Perhaps we can compare and discuss our impressions when we return. We are enjoying the pasta throughout Italy, many with porcini mushrooms here in Tuscany, and wild boar meat. I haven’t had a bad meal yet, and chickpea soup one meal was outstanding! We booked this tour with premium lodging and it has proven to be superior. Tonight is a palazzo! 2023/10/16 at 3:52 am

Jim Constantin: Glad to see that you are walking again! Would love to see more pics of you guys! 2023/10/31 at 10:39 am

Reply: It’s good to hear from you, Jim. We are enjoying our trek and should reach Rome this Friday. Lots more pictures to come! 2023/10/31 at 4:25 pm
