We have an excursion planned for the Godafoss Waterfall, but first we hope to have time to see the town of Akureyri.

4.56 miles; sunny, windy, and a bit of drizzle.
As we sailed into the fjord, there were some low-lying clouds but they quickly gave way to sunshine and a beautiful morning.
Akureyri is only a short walk from the cruise dock. We were the only cruise ship docked for the day.
A cute touristy trick—red lights in town have a heart. Green and yellow lights are the traditional shape.
There have been some devastating fires in the past, so some of the oldest homes are covered with slate for fire protection.
Akureti is known as an artist community as the building murals show.
Richard gives a tourist shop troll a pat on the shoulder.
This is a town garbage can! Imagine a troll eating your rubbish!
The Akureyri Church was consecrated in 1940. It is a Lutheran Church well known for its stained glass windows, telling the story of Jesus Christ but also the history of Iceland.
The convention center was an expensive addition to town but has not yet proven cost effective. The outside walls are covered in lava, just as the natural cliffs are covered.
Mira was one of our guides who made sure we had what we needed. She grew up in Britain but married a native Icelander.
Arman was our knowledgeable guide who encouraged every question. He also drove the bus, telling us about the glacially-carved landscape, the fauna, and the 7.5 km 2018 tunnel through which he drove us to the falls.
We left showers and cold on the port side, but sunshine and wind on the other side of the tunnel.
Godafoss waterfall, a dramatic “Waterfall of the Gods,” is known for its horseshoe shape and powerful flow.
Celebrity Eclipse awaits our return.
The fjord we entered this morning gave us equally beautiful views as we sailed out this evening.
